Ever since Ncuti Gatwa left Doctor Who and we were served up a confusing regeneration scene involving Billie Piper, fans have speculated on who the next Time Lord could be.

Earlier this year, Adolescence star Erin Doherty found herself in the frame, even becoming the ‘bookies favourite’ to take on the role.

Now, in an interview with Radio Times, Doherty addressed the rumours that she could find herself inside the TARDIS next.

I’ve heard the Doctor Who rumour,” Doherty said. “I’m into sci-fi and fantasy but I can honestly say there have been no discussions!”

Doherty also addressed rumours of a follow-up to Netflix mega-hit Adolescence, saying she hadn’t heard anything but adding: “Of course I would do it again.”

Meanwhile, Doctor Who fans have found themselves convinced that David Tennant is returning as the Time Lord in the recently confirmed 2026 Christmas Special

The special will be written by showrunner Russell T Davies and we already know it will star Billie Piper, Tennant’s former companion actor.

The Tennant theory started after the actor did a new interview as part of the BBC online series ‘The Whoniverse Show’, to mark the 20-year anniversary of his first full episode, ‘The Christmas Invasion’.

Earlier this year Tennant did discuss the possibility of returning to the show while appearing on podcast Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum.

Tennant said that “it would depend on what the circumstances were”, while adding: “I went back a couple of years ago – I did three [episodes] in a row – which was an absolute joy because it was returning for a short period of time.”
