A pregnant woman who was stopped after it was noticed she was evading a garda checkpoint in north Tipperary, later tested positive for cocaine.

Gardaí were conducting a mandatory intoxicant checkpoint when they noticed a vehicle trying to evade the checkpoint, said a garda spokesperson on Tuesday, December 30.

“Gardaí attached to Killaloe Garda Station went and spoke to the female driver. Thanks to the garda mobility device, it was discovered that the driver was uninsured. The driver was tested at the road side for alcohol and drugs.”

The drug test returned a positive indication for cocaine and the pregnant driver was arrested and processed at Nenagh Garda Station. The results of the blood sample are awaited. The car was also seized, added the spokesperson.
