The alarm was raised after 5am

An investigation is underway into the cause of a fire that’s badly damaged a pub in County Meath.
The blaze was discovered in Moynalvey around 5.15 this morning.
The premises, which has a thatched roof, was unoccupied at the time.
Fire units from Trim, Navan, Kells and Ashbourne attended the scene, which was preserved for a technical examination.
A spokesperson for Meath County Council issued this update this afternoon:
“Meath County Council Fire and Rescue Service received a call shortly before 5:30am this morning (Wednesday, 31 December 2025) regarding a fire at an empty premises in Moynalvey, Co Meath.
Despite the fire being well developed upon arrival, units from Trim, Navan, Kells and Ashbourne responded and the fire was extinguished at approximately 11am.
The building was extensively damaged, and a number of Fire Service units remain at the scene.”
