Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman have received rave reviews for their portrayal of real-life singers Claire “Thunder” and Mike “Lightning” Sardina in the new film Song Sung Blue. However, Sardina’s son, Michael Sardina Jr. has a different opinion.

“Everybody thinks it’s such a wonderful film, it’s so touching. It’s all lies,” Michael Jr. told the Daily Mail in an interview published on Monday, December 29. “Every interview that those monsters have been on national television don’t even mention my existence at all, even though I was the most prevalent force in my father’s life… I’m his only son.”

According to Michael Jr., he was paid $30,000 to be a consultant on the film but was “purposely cut out.”

“They didn’t even try to contact me,” he told the Daily Mail. “They didn’t try to get more information.”

Michael Jr. told the outlet he would seek legal action against Davis Entertainment, Focus Features and NBCUniversal, alleging that they “completely destroyed the one thing my father worked his entire life to pass on — his legacy.”

“I want the true story out there and I want it used with truth, with dignity, and I want retribution,” he added.

Song Sung Blue is based on Greg Kohs’ 2008 documentary of the same name and tells the story of the Milwaukee mechanic and Vietnam veteran and his relationship with his hairdresser wife after meeting at the Wisconsin State Fair in the 1980s. The two go on to perform in the Neil Diamond tribute band, Lightning & Thunder.

“My father’s rolling in his grave right now,” Michael Jr. added. “[The film] steals all the hard work that my father put in his entire life so that Claire, [and her daughters] Rachel and Dayna, can soak up a massive paycheck.”
