The big January sale has begun at Marks and Spencer, with prices slashed across some of its most popular winter wardrobe staples as temperatures plummet across Ireland
Among the bargains up for grabs are cosy coats and jackets reduced to half price. While many items in the sale have sold out in most sizes, one standout option with excellent stock availability is the Twill Single Breasted Collared Coat in Light Caramel.
Now priced at €49.50, down from €99, it is still available in sizes 6 to 16 at the time of writing, although it’s selling out quickly after a 50% discount was applied to its original price.

M&S describes this stylish coat as a “timeless” piece featuring a flattering, relaxed fit, complete with a smart collar, handy side pockets and button fastening, and it’s earned an impressive average rating of 4.4 out of five stars from over 200 customer reviews.
Meanwhile, at New Look, a popular pick is the Single Button Lined Coat, which has also been marked down to £35 (€40) across all three colour options as part of the retailer’s extensive January sale.
Back at M&S, one customer who purchased the Twill Single Breasted Collared Coat said: “Wanted an ‘all occasion’ coat and this is perfect. The fit is a little generous so went down a size and its perfect, still roomy enough for a thick jumper on colder days.”
The coat is cut in a flattering relaxed fit, with a back split for easy movement and is lined for comfort
Another reviewer praised the coat: “Can be dressed up or down and can comfortably wear a chunky sweater underneath without it looking voluminous. Fabric had a good weight to it and buttons up easily and neatly in the colder weather. Great quality material and it looks more expensive than the price. I bought the caramel colour which seems to go with most things – will get plenty of wear out of this.”
A third shopper agreed: “Excellent quality and a great price. I bought as alternative to puffer coats to make it easier for driving. I love how it makes me feel and look. Received lots of great compliments when I wear it too so always a bonus.”
And another person wrote: “Just what I needed! A smart go-anywhere warm winter coat. Good quality, great colour, just super. Can’t fault it.”
However, not all customers were thrilled with the coat’s material, with several shoppers grumbling that theirs started to bobble after only a few wears, reports Chronicle Live. “Unfortunately after wearing it just twice it has started to pill on the inner arms and around the pocket,” one person reported.
Another customer noted: “After wearing just a few times, the fabric looks worn with bobbling appearing and making the coat look shabby.”
