The death took place in Coventry, England, in recent days of Donegal native and GAA stalwart, Mick McBrearty.
Originally from Dunkineely, he was a former player and chairman of the Four Masters GAA Club in the West Midlands. The organisation was founded in 1955 by two fellow Donegal men, PJ Burke and Patsy Meehan.
“Mick joined the club in the 1960s and represented Four Masters with great distinction, playing numerous positions with the same trademark tenacity and commitment,” spokesperson for the club said.
Mick also played an extremely active role off the pitch and was instrumental in the recruitment of several players, including Danny Doherty (Urris). He was heavily involved in the acquisition of the Four Masters social club in Earlsdon in the late 1970s, serving as Chairman in 1976 and 1977.
“Mick’s passion for Four Masters was unwavering,” the spokesperson added.
“Everyone at Four Masters would like to extend our sincere condolences to the McBrearty family at this very sad time”.
His sons Paul and Chris both went on to play for the club, and his grandson, Matthew, is part of the current panel, proudly continuing the family tradition.
