Soap boss Iain MacLeod is certainly feeling the nerves about Coronation Street and Emmerdale‘s big crossover, Corriedale. On Monday evening the soap words collide, with a blockbuster hour-long episode. Characters from both soaps feature in the action-packed episode, where a deadly crash stunt leaves lives on the line.
But one part of the episode in particular has given Iain sleepless nights. The public vote element as previously shared will see fans given the chance to add a scene into the episode. It’s yet to be revealed at what point it will air, but the vote will close 15 minutes prior to the episode’s transmission at 8PM on Monday January 5. It’s been narrowed down to four duos, containing a character from each soap.
At some point, fans will be asked to vote for the pair whose scenes they want to see, while Iain did tell The Mirror and other press that hopefully, at some point we can see them all. Only one will be added into the episode last minute.

It’s this super quick addition and the very little time they have to prepare that is making Iain uneasy though. He admitted: “Based on a long list of viewer suggestions of four pairings that we and viewers liked sound of, we wrote a scene of each of those four pairings.
“Starting in January there will be an online poll and you can vote for which of those four pairings you would like to see in the finished episode. There’ll be an additional scene in there that will be chosen by the audience.
“Voting closes 15 minutes before transmission. I will be in the transmission suite on the night going, ‘play that one. Hopefully that’s the right one,’ and I’m already feeling a little sweaty about that to be honest.”
Asked about when in the episode it airs and who the pairings are, he added: “We designed it so that there’s a juncture where it can feature and I’m not telling you where it is at this point. The pairings are, Roy and Nicola, Cafe Supremos the pair of them, we have Kirk and Sam, which actor James Houghton described as the meeting of two brain cells.

“We have Carla and Charity which certainly there’ll be a lot of noise around that if that ends up being the one that is successful, and then there’s Ross and Tracy which is very sparky. It’s two appallingly flirtatious people unable to avoid flirting with each other.
“So they’re all individually brilliant scenes. They’re in the camera, they’re ready to go. We’ll find some avenue for you to see all of them at some point, I’m sure. But in terms of what goes in the episode, that will be up to the audience.”
