Kristen Stewart is happy to throw her name in the ring to direct a Twilight remake.

Stewart, 35, was open to the idea that she should re-adapt the mega-popular vampire romance film series when she spoke with Entertainment Tonight at Variety‘s 10 Directors to Watch and Creative Impact Awards in Palm Springs, Calif. on Sunday, Jan. 4. Stewart was named to that list of 10 up-and-coming directors after she released her directorial debut, The Chronology of Water, in 2025.

“I would love — look. I love what Catherine [Hardwicke] did, I love what Chris [Weitz] did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies,” she said, when ET’s reporter suggested that she remake the movies.

“They were so themselves and weird and kind of like, squirrelly, and just so present in that time when they didn’t really know what they were yet, like before they blew up,” Stewart said of the franchise. “Imagine if we had a huge budget and a bunch of love and support. I don’t know — I would love to readapt. Yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it! I’m committed!”

Stewart, of course, rose to superstardom while she portrayed Twilight’s lead character Bella Swan in the five movies that comprise the Twilight saga, released between 2008 and 2012. She costarred with Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Anna Kendrick, Peter Facinelli, Kellan Lutz, Elizabeth Reaser, Ashley Greene and more across the movies, which were adapted from author Stephanie Meyer’s novels of the same name.

Three of the five movies had different directors: Catherine Hardwicke directed the original, while Chris Weitz and David Slade directed New Moon and Eclipse, respectively. Bill Condon directed the two-part finale adaptation of Meyer’s novel Breaking Dawn.

Stewart previously commented on her experience watching filmmaker Hardwicke, now 70, direct the first Twilight movie in a December interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “Being able to withstand and organize that many opinions, and still make something that feels like yours, is near impossible to do,” she said of the production at the time. “With so many voices in the room and with so much expectation, nothing feels personal.”

The actor-turned-director’s new movie The Chronology of Water marks Stewart’s first turn as a director. “I’ve been working on other people’s films for my whole life, since I was nine years old and I feel like everything’s been building to this moment to find a little space for myself. It’s just what I’ve wanted to do my whole life,” she told ET in Palm Springs.

The Chronology of Water is in theaters now.
