We know there are Gardaí working across the country 24 hours a day, often in difficult and dangerous conditions – but very few of us actually understand the day-to-day realities of life in An Garda Síochána.

A new ride-along docuseries beginning tonight on RTÉ One will give viewers an inside look at what actually goes on in the force in three different locations – including two busy Munster cities.

On the Beat will feature four episodes, filmed in Limerick, Waterford and Monaghan and will show the working life of Gardaí and the impact their work has on the communities that they serve.

An Garda Síochána said: “With unprecedented access, the series shows the real challenges, real teamwork and real moments that shape policing across Ireland.”

There has been a recent increased effort to boost policing outside of Dublin – including 48 new Gardaí in Cork city to allow for an overnight police force.

The initiative means there are officers visible in 11 key locations on the streets of Leeside until 4 am every day as part of a permanent High Visibility Policing Plan.

Meanwhile, later this week the national broadcaster will air another documentary giving insight into the professional lives of some of Cork’s busiest workers

Any Given Day: Cork University Hospital will follow a select number of staff and patients as it showcases the sheer amount of work required to keep the CUH running and the road to recovery for patients in their care. The six-part documentary series gives viewers an insight into the day-to-day operations of the health service through the eyes of the healthcare professionals who work tirelessly every day.
