Evan Ferguson opened the scoring and was named player of the match for Roma as they recorded a 2-0 victory away to Lecce in Serie A.
The Republic of Ireland striker saw 60 minutes of action as he helped his side bounce back from last Saturday’s defeat to Atalanta.
Ferguson’s goal arrived just before the quarter hour when a clever pass from Paulo Dybala released the Meathman, who had time to take a touch before finding the bottom corner from 15 yards.
It’s a second goal in three starts for Ferguson, bringing his total to five across what is now 20 appearances for the Rome giants. Finding the net against Genoa on 27 December also earned him the player of the match accolade.
Indeed, the striker could have doubled his tally against the Serie A strugglers, with Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone saving well to keep out a goalbound effort from the 21-year-old.
Ferguson made way for defender and Liverpool loanee Kostas Tsimikas, with Roma doubling their advantage on 71 minutes when Artem Dovbyk, who subsequently went off injured with a thigh strain, scoring from close range.
The win moves Roma back up to fourth in the table above Como and Juventus ahead of the Turin side’s visit to Saauolo this evening.
Dubliner Corrie Ndaba was an unused substitute for Lecce.
