According to the Better Business Bureau, scammers are exploiting online weight-loss drug demand with fake ads, AI celebrity endorsements and deep fakes.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Better Business Bureau is warning people who are looking for weight loss products online.

According to the BBB, scammers are taking advantage of the growing demand for the drugs by posting fake ads online. Some of the scams are using AI-generated celebrity endorsements or deep fake videos to make products look more reputable.

The BBB said others pose as online pharmacies offering discounted GLP-1 drugs. However, the products never arrive or aren’t what they claim to be.

Consumers have reported losing hundreds of dollars to the schemes, with experts saying the scams often target people who are eager for quick results, who may skip checking whether the seller is licensed.

According to experts, if the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The BBB is urging people to only buy prescription weight-loss drugs through the pharmacy with a doctor’s order.
