Motorists have expressed anger at rush-hour delays of up to 30 minutes at the busy Kilross Junction on the main Letterkenny to Ballybofey road.

For the past two days, Uisce Éireann crews have been carrying out repairs to a burst water main along the N13 at Tircallen. As a result, temporary traffic lights have been put in place, resulting in long tailbacks in both directions. The traffic congestion has been exacerbated by recent weather conditions, meaning side roads cannot be used due to snow and ice.

A spokesperson for the water utility told Donegal Daily they are working to repair the latest burst as soon as possible.

“Uisce Éireann crews successfully repaired two bursts yesterday; however, a further burst has since occurred,” they said.

“Teams are working to repair this leak as quickly as possible. A traffic management plan will be in place for the duration of the works to ensure the safety of the public and crews carrying out the repairs. The bursts have occurred as a result of the recent freezing conditions”.

The repairs may result in supply disruptions affecting Lettermore, Killymore, Broadpath, Carcashy, Magheracorran, Midcut, Meenavoy, Cloughroe, Tivockmoy, Callan, Liskeeran, Kilross and surrounding areas. An alternative water supply will remain available at Kernan’s Diner & Filling Station, Drumkeen, until the supply is fully restored to customers.

“Uisce Éireann apologises for any inconvenience and appreciates the patience of the community and road users while works are ongoing,” the spokesperson concluded.
