Black ice caused problems for motorists and pedestrians across the region this morning.
Midwest News received reports of vehicles leaving the road in locations all over the region early this morning.
We are not aware of any serious injuries as a result.
Freezing temperatures overnight last night resulted in black ice on many route.
Secondary roads, untreated, were particularly dangerous.
Footpaths were described as lethal– as were the surfaces in many car parks.
Mayo County Council say its gritting teams were deployed last night and again early this morning across the region to grit all routes outlined in the winter service plan.
Temperatures dropping below zero coupled with heavy showers after gritting in some areas, created further challenging road conditions,
The Council is urging the public to exercise caution on all roads, whether they are gritted or not, during this period of low temperatures
