John McAreavey has posted a touching tribute to Michaela McAreavey on the 15th anniversary of her death.

Former Rose of Tralee contestant Michaela McAreavey was murdered in a hotel room on her honeymoon in Mauritius in January 2011 – just 10 days after she and her beloved John had got married.

Nobody has been convicted of the murder of tragic Michaela, the daughter of Tyrone GAA manager Mickey Harte, who was strangled at the Legends Hotel on the Indian Ocean island on January 10, 2011, aged 27

John and Michaela were on their honeymoon when Michaela was attacked as she returned to her room alone and disturbed a burglary.

Two former workers at the luxury resort – Sandip Moneea and Avinash Treebhoowoon – were acquitted after a high-profile trial on the holiday island in the summer of 2012.

Now, John has marked the 15th anniversary of her death in a heartbreaking post on social media, alongside a picture of Michaela on their wedding day.

John said that his adored Michaela would forever be in his hearts and prayers, as he told how the fight for justice for her continues.

He penned: “Remembering Michaela today, 15 years on from when she was so cruelly taken from us. Forever in our hearts and prayers. The fight for justice continues.”
