The first day of school is hard, no matter how old your baby is. From sending your kid to kindergarten to their first day of college, there’s no shame in quietly weeping every year after drop-off (we all do it!). Now, Jennifer Lopez is making us cry with her emotional goodbye to her 17-year-old child Emme. The “On the Floor” singer celebrated a big milestone for her teen, and the rare new picture shows such a raw, emotional moment.
Emme headed off to her first day of senior year — making it her last first day of school picture (at least, unless she heads to college). The Mother star shared a throwback picture of her hugging Emme, which she was reminiscing on after sending her child to school.

“I just dropped off this little coconut to their first day of senior year,” J. Lo wrote on her Instagram story, per PEOPLE. “Looking back at this photo from a few years ago, it just reminds me that they’ll always be my beautiful baby!”
Aww! We totally get that feeling. No matter how old our kids get, they will always, always, always be our babies! What probably made the back to school season even more challenging this year was the fact that Lopez recently spent some quality time with Emme in the Hamptons.
The Hustlers star shared several pictures from a summer vacation to the Hamptons, including a picture of Lopez and Emme smiling together from the back of the car. “Le Sunshine ☀️,” Lopez captioned the post.
Lopez shares Emme and 17-year-old son Maximilian “Max” with ex-husband Marc Anthony. The twins turned 17 in February, which J. Lo marked with a sweet photo montage throughout the years. These were candid moments at home and on stage, silly selfies, formal events, casual hangouts, and pet snuggles. Every moment throughout the years is filled with love.
“Seventeen. I love you beyond forever 🥥🥥,” she captioned the post.
Her little coconuts are growing up, but it’s clear that they are still as close as ever with their mom. And that gives all of us a little hope as we get through this emotional back-to-school season!
