Fans of detective dramas can rejoice, as one of the most beloved British series in the genre is coming to Netflix later this month. Based on the work of a legendary novelist, Agatha Christie’s Marple will get a new streaming home soon in the UK.

The series, which ran for six seasons between 2004 and 2013, follows Miss Jane Marple as she lives a quiet life in the village of St Mary Mead. Despite her pleasant surroundings, mischief is afoot, and she solves plenty of crimes.

After airing on ITV during its original run, the detective drama will have a new home later in the month when it is added to Netflix on 27 January. We don’t know yet if that includes all six seasons and 23 episodes, but we’ll find out soon!

The legendary character was played by two actors across the series, with Julia McKenzie replacing Geraldine McEwan in the role from the fourth season onwards in 2009. Over the years, famous supporting stars included Joanna Lumley and Tom Baker.

Adapted from a variety of Christie’s works, Marple is heralded as one of the best projects based on the author’s material, with its average user rating on IMDb currently standing at an impressive 7.9 out of 10 from 12,000 reviews.

“I can honestly say this is one of the best TV adaptations and definitely worth of 10 stars. It’s got everything and more. Please give it a chance,” opined one viewer on IMDb, while another called the series “entertaining and interesting”.

“Glorious scenery throughout, I loved the house that was used as Miss Marple’s residence, such a pretty place. The period detail was spot on so many times, in terms of outfits and styling they nailed it,” added another viewer, who called it “wonderful”.

One other user was also full of praise, writing: “Agatha Christie is a marvel. One of her best her legacies, Marple will outlive us by far… The actors are splendid. The plots are so well-developed, the acting so human yet precise.”

Marple won’t be the only series based on Christie’s work that will be coming to Netflix this month, with Seven Dials set to premiere on 15 January. Based on 1929’s The Seven Dials Mystery, the series stars Mia McKenna-Bruce, Martin Freeman and Helena Bonham Carter.

Marple is coming to Netflix on 27 January.
