Three bluetongue serotype 3 (BTV-3) vaccines have been licensed for use in Ireland, while the culling of infected animals may be necessary in certain situations, the Department of Agriculture has confirmed.

It comes as the Republic of Ireland remains bluetongue-free, but the Department has warned that it is “now more likely” that the disease will spread during the high-risk season in summer 2026.
