New figures from Revenue show that the management and maintenance costs of the MV Matthew is now put at almost €13.7 million.

The bulk cargo vessel was seized as part of the biggest cocaine seizure in Irish history in September 2023.

Since then it has been tied up, for the most part, at the Port of Cork berth at Marino Point in Cork Harbour.

In a statement, Revenue said keeping the vessel alongside in Cork from September 2023 to the end of December 2025 has cost just under €13.7m.

That figure includes the cost of berthing, unberthing and moving the ship of €3,375,544.

Maintenance, including ship’s stores and provisions, bunkering fuel, waste removal, repairs, as well as agent and professional fees and insurance is put at €5,732,669.

Crewing has cost €4,584,700 to date.

Revenue also confirmed that a sale of the vessel has not concluded but they continue to “engage with interested parties” as well as “exploring direct recycling options”.

“In the meantime, work required for both the continued safe maintenance of the vessel in the harbour and to prepare for vessel departure, is ongoing,” Revenue said.
