A Louth-based Garda prosecuted over a fatal hit and run collision in which a pedestrian died almost two years ago, has pleaded guilty.

Michael Ball of Drogheda Garda Station, who is suspended from duty, admitted dangerous driving causing the death of Niall MacEneaney and failing to keep the vehicle at the scene on the Rathmullen Road, Drogheda on March 17th 2024.

Judge Andrews remanded him on bail to the current sitting of the Circuit Court next Monday on his own bond of €100.

The judge also granted legal aid for two counsel following an application by Defence solicitor Philip Hannon.

Judge Andrews also acknowledged members of Mr MacEneaney’s family, who Mr Mullen had indicated were present in court when the case was called.

The 42 year old was well known locally as a former Louth hurler and was the hurling team coach with Termonfeckin club St Fechin’s at the time of his death.
