Just Between Us with Jennifer Zamparelli
We talk a lot about coming out but often not enough about the people who do it quietly, slowly, and later than they expected.
In this episode of Just Between Us, Jennifer Zamparelli is joined by journalist Sarah Magliocco, who grew up without the language, role models or visibility to understand what she was feeling. For years, she describes living in a “grey area” – dating boys, going along with what was expected, and feeling like she was always holding something back without knowing why.
Sarah opens up about how moving to Dublin helped unlock a new world, how friendships made it feel safe to explore, and why the internet became a lifeline (even when it wasn’t always the safest place to go looking for answers). She talks about the apprehension of opening up to her family, the pressure to be ‘sure,’ the impact of internalised homophobia, and ultimately the joy of feeling accepted and living openly and honestly.
