Emmerdale spoilers follow from Thursday’s episode (28 August), which is available to watch now on ITVX and YouTube but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.

Emmerdale fans can expect more strange behaviour from the scheming John Sugden tonight as he returns to our screens.

The dangerous killer has been absent from the past couple of episodes, as the show’s focus has shifted to Dylan Penders’s dark past and Moira Dingle’s ongoing battles over Butlers Farm.

What to Read Next

In Thursday’s episode, we see more of John and his husband Aaron Dingle at the remote cottage where they’re currently on holiday.

Things seem to be going well for the couple, at least at face value, until Aaron mentions that they should try to buy the property from the landlord and stay there permanently.

This suggestion appears to unsettle John, who firmly insists that it’s not possible.

John even fakes a phone call to the landlord to prove his point, wanting Aaron to drop the topic of conversation.

It’s clear that there’s something fishy going on when it comes to John and the creepy cottage, especially when he then overreacts to Aaron’s curiosity over a locked door.

As Aaron eagerly looks around the full property, he wants to find out what’s in the unexplored room. John firmly steps in to distract him and it’s obvious that he doesn’t want Aaron snooping in there.

With various misdeeds and lies already troubling his conscience, what could John be hiding now? And is it connected to Mackenzie Boyd’s shock demise?

“John keeps nipping out quite a lot and I think Aaron starts to realise that there’s stuff going on that he doesn’t know about,” Danny Miller, who plays Aaron, recently told us.

“He’s got Mackenzie and Robert’s voices in the back of his head and he’s really trying to ignore all that, because he wants it to work with John.”

He added: “Aaron has no idea just how dangerous of a situation he’s in at that cottage with John, because John’s got him all to himself.

“I don’t think John even knows what he wants to do, but he does know that he doesn’t want to lose the battle for Aaron to Robert…”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
