The last few years have been a tough time for the hospitality industry – but one bar and restaurant in Cork city centre is celebrating an extremely successful first year in business and is saying thank you by giving back to its loyal customers.

On Thursday, January 29, the Hungry Hippo on Courthouse Street is putting together a special menu of its best-selling burgers and will be selling them all for just €1.

Head Chef Maciej Sitarek said the birthday celebrations are about giving something back to the city that has supported them from day one.

Maciej said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be celebrating our first birthday at The Hungry Hippo, and this is our way of saying thank you to the people of Cork for all the incredible support over the past year.

“We’ve had some amazing highlights, from expanding our opening hours to seven days a week, catering for a major act after they played live at Musgrave Park in July, as well as hosting our sold-out murder mystery night. None of it would be possible without our brilliant team in both the restaurant and the kitchen, who work so hard every day. We’re really looking forward to celebrating with everyone on January 29th.”

The Hungry Hippo is owned by Mutual Enterprises, who also own several other popular spots around the city – employing more than 100 people in businesses including Voodoo Rooms, An Bróg, BarBarossa, Popscene and The Alibi.

If you want to make the most of the bargain birthday burgers, you need to book a table because the special offer is only available to groups with reservations.
