This historical British crime drama is set in London’s East End in the 1880s, where survival hinges on who can fight for it. The story follows Hezekiah Moscow and Alec Munroe, two best friends from Jamaica pulled into the criminal underbelly of London and its illegal bare-knuckle boxing scene. As they attempt to build new lives, they come up against two powerful forces: Henry “Sugar” Goodson, a veteran boxer, and the Forty Elephants, an all-female criminal gang led by Mary Carr, known for shoplifting and cons.

How did A Thousand Blows Season 1 end?

Spoiler Alert: Spoilers for A Thousand Blows Season 1 finale below.

Season 1 ended with Hezekiah reeling from Alec’s death while Mary kept the culprit’s identity from him and the Forty Elephants began to question her leadership.

In the finale’s big match, Hezekiah beat the American champion Buster Williams, but when Buster was pronounced dead, the contest was declared void and a mob formed, forcing Hezekiah to escape.

Mary and Alice freed Mr Lao from prison and helped him get out of London by staging a death in his cell.

Finally, Sugar revealed the identity of Alec’s murderer, Indigo Jeremy, to Hezekiah, a revelation that destroyed him and ruined his plan to run away with Mary, because he confronted her and told her she’s “dead to him.” Meanwhile, Sugar learns his brother Treacle survived the beating, and their relationship is left badly fractured.
