Donegal County Council is arranging to repair a footpath on Pearse Road in Letterkenny where tree roots have lifted and created a trip hazard for pedestrians and runners.
The footpath on the Railway Road, adjacent to McDonald’s, has been the scene of several accidents this winter.
Some runners have suffered “fairly severe falls”, according to Councillor Michael McBride.
Councillor McBride urged the local authority to take the necessary steps to address the damage.
“I don’t know what the solution is, but it’s certainly a danger the way it is,” Cllr McBride told this week’s meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.
Following the passing of the motion, the council confirmed that arrangements are being made to have the repairs carried out.
Councillor Tomás Seán Devine, who seconded the motion, said the issue is not just confined to the Pearse Road, noting that trees are raising footpaths in several areas of Letterkenny, particularly around Ballymacool.
