Theatre director Garry Hynes: ‘My wife and I had a tradition of reusing the same card for each other’s birthdays. We’d add a new message each time’

The Druid founder on her love of books, Van Morrison and her advice for young creatives

Garry Hynes is a theatre director from Co Roscommon and co-founded the Druid Theatre Company 50 years ago. She has held the role of the company’s artistic director on and off, and over the course of her career has directed for the Abbey Theatre, The Gaiety Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. She was married to film producer Martha O’Neill, who passed away earlier this year.
