A FARMER, aged in his early 90s, has died in a workplace accident while tending to cattle on land in County Limerick.

A garda spokesperson said gardaí and emergency services responded to a fatal workplace accident at a premises near Askeaton at approximately 6pm on Monday evening.

“A male, aged in his 90s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body has since been removed to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem examination. The local coroner has been notified.” 

One local told Limerick Live that the elderly man was tending to cattle, that were being outwintered, at the time and it is believed he may have been attacked by a cow.

“He was found deceased some time later and the emergency services were contacted,” they said.

The man, aged 91, is not from the locality but bought a farm of land at Morgans North in Askeaton.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified.
