The Princess of Wales delivered a triumphant tartan moment as she joined Prince William in Scotland for a busy day of engagements.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, known in Scotland as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, visited Stirling and Falkirk to shine a spotlight on unique Scottish heritage traditions and how they are continuing to connect communities and inspire new generations.
For the occasion, Catherine, 44, nodded to her Scottish hosts in a vibrant blue tartan coat – a new custom creation by celebrated Savile Row stalwart Chris Kerr. The double-breasted coat was made using fabric specifically woven for the Princess by Johnstons of Elgin, a Scottish heritage label that dates its history back to the 18th century.
Once inside, the Princess of Wales removed her coat to reveal the rest of her outfit: a new, ankle-length skirt by Le Kilt using Johnstons of Elgin fabric; a black Zara turtleneck jumper; and a favourite pair of Gianvito Rossi boots that were swapped for a flat Tods style inside.
The finishing touch was a pair of sentimental sapphire and diamond earrings, which were gifted to the then Kate Middleton by Prince William shortly before her 2011 royal wedding. The Princess of Wales has treasured the sapphires throughout her royal career, sporting them anywhere from her debut at Wimbledon in 2011 to a more recent outing to the Anna Freud Centre last November.
Catherine completed her look with her much-loved engagement ring, the stunning sapphire affectionately described by royal watchers as ‘big blue’, which has been a less consistent presence on the Princess’s finger over the past few years, but is always a delight for fans to spot on an outing.
