Dr. Martens has teamed up with heavy metal band Metallica to create a two-part collection aimed at die-hard fans.
The first part of the collection between Metallica and Dr. Martens includes graphics from two of Metallica’s historic 1980s world tours. The second reimagines the 1460 boot with a Metallica-exclusive black-on-black version.

The first part features the 1460 Metallica Boot and 1461 Metallica Shoe cut from durable Backhand leather and respectively emblazoned with artwork from the 1988 Damaged Justice and 1986 Damage Inc. tours. The artist Pushead, whose work emerged from the hardcore punk and skating communities as Metallica’s star rose, is the original creator of the graphics. Additional design elements include a Metallica “M” heel stud, special edition dog tags and an alternate set of laces reading “Boredom comes from a boring mind.”

The shoe sits upon a cleated BEN sole and the boot uses Doc’s signature DMS sole, and both feature yellow welt stitching. The 1460 boot is rounded out by an AirWair heel loop and special-edition Metallica eyelet design. These two shoe options from the collaboration will be available beginning Jan. 29 at drmartens.com and all Dr. Martens retail stores.

Next up, the Metallica Exclusive 1460 Boot is inspired by Metallica’s self-titled fifth album, which is also known as The Black Album. This style is made from soft Orleans leather embossed with the band’s logo at the ankle and “5th Member” at the heel — a name the band calls their fans, considering them an essential part of the group. Other details include an “M” heel stud, D-rings and dog tags. Lace options include a plain black set and a “5th Member” set. The boot features a BEN sole and a black-on-black welt stitch, with an AirWait heel loop completing the look. This shoe can be shopped exclusively at metallica.com.

A campaign for the collaboration showcases die-hard fans of Metallica including Ruby, her father Rob, Steve and Keshini; the campaign highlights their personal connections to the band and how merchandise represents unforgettable moments.
Steve said, “My memories and history all relate to when I first heard Metallica’s music. It’s all-encompassing.”
Additional recent Dr. Martens collaborators have included Supreme, Marc Jacobs and “Wednesday.”
