A teenager has been rushed to the hospital following a serious e-scooter crash on the north side of Cork city last night.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the incident in Farranree at around 9:40 pm on Thursday night. Paramedics assessed the male teenager at the scene before conveying him to Cork University Hospital via ambulance. His injuries have been described as serious.

Gardaí preserved the scene overnight, and the area remains sealed off this morning, with Garda Forensic Collision investigators due to arrive shortly. A technical examination will be conducted to determine the circumstances of the crash. Gardaí have described the collision as a single-vehicle road traffic incident, and it appears no other vehicles were involved at this time.

The incident occurred along Fairfield Avenue, and motorists in the area are advised to use alternative routes while the examination is underway this morning.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí and emergency services responded to a single-vehicle road traffic incident in Farranree, Cork on Thursday night, 22nd January 2026. A male teenager came off an e-scooter on which he was travelling on Fairfield Avenue at approximately 9:40 pm.

“He was brought to Cork University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The scene is currently closed pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.”
