Irish singer, Luke Thomas, says he is “absolutely devastated” after the tragic passing of his girlfriend, Ciara Gunning.

Ciara passed away peacefully in St. Vincent’s Private Hospital, Dublin surrounded by her family on Monday January 19.

The Swing Cats front man Luke, took to social media to pay tribute to his girlfriend. In a short message the Co. Dublin singer said he was “absolutely devastated”.

Ciara’s funeral is due to take place on Friday morning. Ciara’s family issued a statement following her heartbreaking passing.

“The Gunning family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses and staff in St. Vincent’s Private Hospital Dublin, in particular the Medical Oncology Team, Cara ward nursing team and Palliative Care for the exceptional care, kindness and compassion given to Ciara throughout her illness.”

Ever since news emerged of Ciara’s tragic death, friends, family and complete strangers have been sharing tributes online.

“I worked with Ciara many moons ago in the Headfort Arms Hotel. A beautiful girl inside and out. I’m saddened to hear of her untimely passing at such a young age and wish to express my sincerest condolences to her family and partner. May she rest in peace,” said one woman.

A second person said: “I am so saddened and shocked to hear of Ciara’s passing. I spent many happy weekends in my youth at athletics with Rory, Alan, Ciara, and Margaret — memories I will always treasure. She, and your family, were such a big part of that time. My deepest condolences to you, Sean, and Luke. May Ciara rest in peace.”

“Dear Ciara, I am so sorry to hear of your passing, you were a beautiful lady inside out. A big loss to this world, and your family , Luke and friends. You will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. Thank you for your friendship. Love you to the moon and back x,” said a friend.

Ciara’s death notice on RIP.ie reads: “The death has occurred of Ciara Gunning, Alderwood Park, Springfield, Dublin 24 and formerly of Athboy Co. Meath. Ciara passed away peacefully in St. Vincent’s Private Hospital, Dublin surrounded by her family. Predeceased by her grandparents Kit and Molly Comaskey, James and Marjorie Gunning. Sadly missed by her heartbroken family, parents Seán and Margaret, brothers Rory and Alan (Jennifer), and her partner Luke, nieces Emma and Katie, aunts, uncles, extended family and wide circle of friends.

“Rest In Eternal Peace Our Precious Angel. Reposing in Mullens Funeral Home, Athboy (C15 KW58) on Thursday evening at 4pm until 7pm. Removal on Friday morning leaving her aunt Mary’s residence arriving for Funeral Mass in St. James’ Church, Athboy at 10am, followed by cremation service in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan (H12 RF78) at 1pm.”
