They say revenge is a dish best served cold, but it tastes even better when it’s served within the pages of a no-holds-barred memoir. So it’s no wonder Ruth Langsford was all smiles last week as she shared the news of her new book, Feeling Fabulous, with fans. She promises it will detail “the ups and the downs, the good and the not so good” of her life.

Sources tell New that the timing of Ruth’s announcement – a month ahead of the book’s release on 26 February – is no coincidence, and that the Loose Women star, 65, is determined to show everyone that she’s in the best place possible after the collapse of her marriage to Eamonn Holmes.

The TV duo called time on their relationship in May 2024, after 27 years together and 14 years of marriage. Eamonn, 66, quickly moved on with current girlfriend Katie Alexander, 43, and recent reports claim the loved-up couple have bought a luxury weekend retreat near Eamonn’s native Belfast in Northern Ireland.

“This is really all about the timing,” says our source. “It’s no accident that Ruth announced the book days after the news of Eamonn’s new love nest broke.

“But Ruth isn’t about being bitter – she’s about empowering herself and is feeling really good at the minute. She wants to draw a line under everything with Eamonn, officially and emotionally. The book is her way of doing that.”

While Ruth admits she’s “a little nervous” about the book’s release, it’s Eamonn who’s likely to be most on edge as he braces himself for his ex-wife to share her side of the story on their marriage.

The former TV golden couple’s break-up came as a shock to fans, not least because Eamonn had been battling a series of debilitating health issues, with Ruth acting as his carer.

Following their split, the GB News presenter moved out of their Surrey home and, despite the 23-year age gap, his relationship with marriage counsellor Katie appears to be flourishing. The couple enjoy luxury getaways and regularly attend high-profile events together.

The split clearly hit Ruth hard, but late last year the star’s wounds appeared to be healing as she hinted she’s finally ready to move on.

“Before, I saw darkness and was thinking, ‘Oh my God, what’s going to happen?’ but now the fear [has] gone,” she said. “Because what do you do? Do you crumble? Do you lay down and die? Oh no, not I. I will survive.”

Ruth, who shares 23-year-old son Jack with Eamonn, has also revealed that she turned to therapy to help her cope with the split.

“I started counselling when Eamonn and I separated, and I’m still having it,” she confided. “It is very powerful and very useful. It gives me tools to deal with things.

“My counsellor has probably seen us on TV, but she doesn’t know either of us, so doesn’t get involved and doesn’t judge. She just listens and says, ‘Have you thought about this?’ or ‘Why did you feel like that?’

“I think I know myself very well, so it has just been calming. It makes me question how I’m feeling.”

Speaking about how she processed her pain, Ruth added, “The end of a very long relationship takes a lot of unravelling. Counselling helps you move on from it, to not be held back… I definitely see light in the future where I didn’t before.”

The former This Morning presenter has also revealed she’s open to finding love again – despite claiming she’s “actually quite good” on her own.

“I haven’t been put off having a relationship,” she confessed. “I haven’t even been put off marriage.”

Last year she opened up about her decision to finally pen a memoir, saying, “I’ve been asked to do a book many times, and I’ve always said no because I’ve always thought, ‘Who cares about my life, or what I’ve done in my life.’

“But I’m at a certain age now and at a certain stage in my life, and the stories in here are just reflections. It’s not really an autobiography, it’s called memoir plus. So it’s stories from my life, actual things that have happened to me, how I’ve dealt with them, the lessons I’ve learned from them, how I’ve coped, how I’m finding life now at 65.”

However challenging the past few years have been for Ruth, our source says she has overcome her emotional demons and is in a far more positive headspace as she moves on from her marriage woes and looks towards the year ahead.

“Ruth is busy with so many different things this year – she’s not even given Eamonn a second thought,” says our source. “She’s looking forward to new opportunities this year, like this book. She’s very career-minded and this is a new beginning for her.

“She’s got a new book coming out, is open to love again and while she waits for the right person, she’s all about having fun with her girlfriends.”
