Popular Cork city market stallholders The Pie Guys are opening their first restaurant in just over a week.
The well-known savoury pastry sellers, most known as a go-to lunch spot in the English Market, are launching a new location in Bandon next Friday. The new pie restaurant is at 11 South Main Street in the former Elizabeth Fashions store, which relocated across the road late last year.
Speaking to Cork Beo, co-owner Jamie Kelly said the Pie Guys “have a mountain of work” left to get things ready for next month – but are also very excited for the start of a new chapter for their business.
To begin, the new Bandon location will be takeaway only, but owners Jamie and Tim O’Kennedy say they plan on bringing in limited seating for customers to enjoy their flavourful pies. Frozen pies will also be available for anyone who wants to cook theirs at home. The Bandon restaurant will serve tea and coffee once things get up and running, which will pair well with their sweet pasties and planned new offerings like scones and cookies.
The good news for Leesiders is that even as they focus operations on the new West Cork spot, they’ll still have a location in the city as the busy English Market stall is going nowhere.

The Pie Guys’ new location – works still underway
The Bandon restaurant also comes with a kitchen space, which Jamie and Tim will use to keep stock topped up and for supplying their mobile stall, a takeaway trailer which they launched last year. The trailer isn’t in use at the moment, but it will be running for pop-up events again this spring.
Jamie said: “Honestly the new spot gives both of us a chance to claw back some time. It’s easily reachable, I’m in Courtmacsherry, Tim is in Garretsown. It will give us a chance too increase production. Customers will be able to buy hot pies there, or frozen pies they can take home for later. At the moment, we’re very very focused just on Bandon and getting everything done on time.”
The Pie Guys first opened at the Black Market in November 2022, and made waves with their two standout flavours Beef and Beamish and Chicken Tarragon. They opened a stall in the English Market in July 2023, which has been very popular with locals and tourists since day one.
The Pie Guys’ announcement is welcome news for Bandon, where there is big changes happening. The town’s famous Michelin Guide gastropub Poachers Inn is to be sold. Barry McLoughlin, owner of the popular establishment on Clonakilty Road since 2006, shared the news on social media this week. He told customers that he and his wife Catherine will be “moving on to other things,” meaning that the restaurant will be “going up for sale quite shortly.” Barry also reassured customers that for now Poachers is still “very much open – so if you feel like coming down for lunch, for dinner, for drinks, if you’ve a voucher, please come down. We’d love to see you again.”
