The Chase’s Mark Labbett slammed the table and screamed ‘idiot!’ in an explosive tantrum on Wednesday’s episode of the ITV programme – as fans demanded a big change to the show.

Host Bradley Walsh, 65, welcomed Katheryn, Paddy, Kamal, and Savannah to the studio to take on Mark AKA The Beast, 60, in a bid to win the cash prize.

The contestants did pretty well in their cash-builder rounds as Katheryn managed to get £6,000, Paddy built £7,000, Kamal got £4,000 and Savannah received £5,000.

They all got to the final chase with an impressive £13,000 in the prize fund – and worked well together as a team as they answered a whopping 22 questions correctly in two minutes.

Mark appeared to struggle as he got the seventh question wrong, and was pushed back, and then after another two questions, he was pushed back again.

He went on to get another three questions incorrectly, which meant that he didn’t win the game.

Bradley asked: ‘The Mauretania was a ship of what cruise line?’

An unsure Mark replied: ‘P&O?’

Bradley instantly said: ‘Stop the clock.’

A fuming Mark said: ‘Oh! Idiot!’ as he slammed the table in front of him in frustration.

Savannah then shared the correct answer – Cunard – which meant that they pushed The Beast back again.

With just 14 seconds left, Mark then answered the next question incorrectly again, which meant that the team beat the Chaser.

Bradley went on to tell them that they were going home with £3,250 each.

But fans at home weren’t happy with the fact that the prize gets divided between them as two of them went for the lower offer earlier on in the show.

One said on X: ‘If you beat the chaser you should only get out what you put in.’

‘Paddy deserves £12,500 of that jackpot #thechase.’

‘Paddy deserved that, the others didn’t!’

‘If these players had a conscience, they would give Paddy half of their share.’

‘Why do people go on the Chase if they’re gonna take the low offer? What’s the point? Are they hoping someone will go for a big offer, get through, win and they can have some?’

‘Paddy should have everything other than what the others won for themselves.’

‘If the team win; they should collect what they each brought to the table. Only fair…’

‘I hope they don’t win lol. The low offer losers don’t deserve it.’

It comes after The Chase viewers called for a chaser to be axed following an ‘absolutely horrendous’ performance this week.

Teams aim to win thousands of pounds on the ITV show by defeating one of six possible quiz titans.

In the episode which aired on Tuesday (January 27), host Bradley Walsh introduced new contestants Becci, Matthew, Shenagh, and Toby.

They were up against Shaun Wallace, who managed to eliminate both Becci and Toby in earlier rounds.

Shenagh, 60, and Matthew, 26, faced off against the Dark Destroyer to take home a £6,000 prize to split.

Unfortunately, Shaun ultimately caught the pair with just 15 seconds remaining on the clock.

Writing online, fans weren’t too impressed with the close call and called for a shake-up to the show.

One penned: ‘Shaun had another absolutely horrendous day at the office.’

Another added: ‘About time they started changing the Chasers on the show to keep it fresh.

‘Shaun would be the first to go, just not up to it anymore.’

A third remarked: ‘That was really bad from Shaun. Jenny got 12 questions with 1 minute left yesterday.’

While a fourth chimed in with: ‘Embarrassing from Shaun, anyone else would retire.’

Not all viewers shared this view, however, with a fifth commenting: ‘I do love Shaun.’

Previously, the show found itself in a fix row as viewer hit out at presenter Bradley Walsh for ‘making rules up’.

Chaser Mark Labbett – aka the Beast – faced off against remaining contestants Ian and Marsha in the Final Chase.

The pair achieved a score of 18 for Mark to catch, with the team later having an opportunity to push him back.

Bradley asked: ‘In the Bible, King David saw which beautiful woman bathing?’

To this, Mark offered up the answer ‘Jezebel’ – which was revealed to be incorrect.

When Bradley asked the team for an answer, Marsha called out “Helen!”, with Ian following behind with “Bathsheba”.

Although Bathsheba was the correct answer, the host then revealed he could not accept it.

This was because Marsha, who was not the designated spokesperson, had ‘without nomination’ answered Helen incorrectly first.

The repeated instalment concluded with Mark catching the duo with just one second remaining.

In response to what occurred, a viewer wrote on X: ‘Disgraceful making rules up on the spot. Brad.’

However, Mark came across this comment and responded: ‘I can guarantee that the adjudicator made that call rather than Brad.’

The fan replied: ‘I expect they did Mark. But our Brad is the face of the programme, and he was let down.’

And prior to this, viewers claimed a contestant ‘made television history’ with a ‘first time moment’ in the show’s run.

Amanda, from High Wycombe, explained she wanted £800, having promised to buy her son expensive Balenciaga trainers if she won.

She bagged £4,000 in her cash builder, but ultimately chose to play for Paul’s low offer – of £800.

Luck proved to be on the magazine editor’s side, as she triumphed to advance to the Final Chase.

Speaking immediately afterwards, Bradley said: ‘This is extraordinary.

‘I think this is the first time ever in 15 years that someone has come on for something specific and actually got the amount they needed, specifically for that amount and then got through.’

Continuing, the presenter added: ‘That’s a funny old journey that!’

Paul then brutally remarked: ‘I mean, it’s television history, but it’s a terrible indictment of the state of society’.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
