A receiver has been appointed to the company which owns Cork’s most well-known food market. CPR Properties Cork Limited is the owner of the Marina Market, as listed on the planning documentation filed with Cork City Council in May 2023.

The notice was filed with the Companies Registration Office on January 16, naming Resolute Advisory as the receiver for CPR Properties Cork Limited. The receivership relates to a mortgage debenture between CPR Properties Cork LTD and Ornate Finance No 2 Limited, dating back to September 2023.

Receivership is a legal process in which a creditor who is entitled to recover a debt appoints a qualified individual to assist in managing some or all of the company’s assets to discharge the associated debts. The formal notice of appointment does not specify which property – or properties – controlled by CPR Properties Cork Limited are affected. The market, which is managed by a separate company, Marina Market Management CPR Limited, remains open for business as normal and there is no indication that the appointment of the receiver will affect trading at it in any way.

The owner of the Marina Market, CPR Properties Cork Limited, is a subsidiary of Urban Green Private, a Cork property management company with an extensive portfolio of commercial and residential properties across Ireland, including Douglas Village Shopping Centre in Cork.

The Marina Market is an indoor food hall and multipurpose venue near the centre of Cork. The former warehouse was converted to a food market in September 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, its owners secured formal planning permission, intending to make it a permanent venue.

It has more than 30 food and retail vendors with worldwide cuisines and street food, including Korean, Soul food, Venezuelan, Brazilian, Italian, and Middle Eastern, as well as traditional local fast food, coffee, and pastries. It also has event spaces for music performances, cinema nights, a roller rink and an ice rink.
