Solicitor calls for public inquiry into policing methods after Mr O’Neill, his wife and three other gardaí were cleared in traffic tickets probe

The retired superintendent who was acquitted of attempting to pervert the court of justice suffered “horrendously” during a six-year investigation that ultimately led to nothing, his solicitor has said.

Eamonn O’Neill, and his wife, Anne-Marie Hassett, a serving garda, are now to sue the force for damages after they and three garda colleagues were cleared of all charges of “squaring” traffic tickets, according to their legal representative, Dan O’Gorman.
