Crumbs & Cream in Midleton
A popular sweet treat shop in a big East Cork town will be closing its doors for good this month. The owner of Midleton‘s Crumbs & Cream, Chef Ciarán Walsh, said the decision was made after a “lot of thought” and encouraged all locals to stop by before the store’s last day on Friday, 28th February.
This cutesy cake and cookie spot will be dearly missed by sweet tooths who regularly swung by for its rotating selection of treats. Recent offerings included unique cookie flavours like tiramisu, raspberry white chocolate and s’mores. The shop has also sold a range of other sugary snacks including doughnuts, blondies, rocky road, cookie-dough protein balls and more, as well as big cakes for events like birthdays and Christenings.
Togher man Ciarán, who is a trained cook and previously worked as Head Chef at Poulet-Vous at the Marina Market, opened the shop in March last year. He got the idea to start his own business during Covid, inspired by viral baking videos on TikTok and Instagram. In a statement on social media, Ciarán offered heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported his store since its launch – and teased that Cork hasn’t seen the last of Crumbs & Cream.

He said: “After a lot of thought, we’ve decided that it’s time for us to step away from our unit in Midleton, Because of this, our Midleton store will be closing on Friday, the 28th of February. This decision comes from a place of growth and change – not goodbye. Our time in Midleton has been incredible, and this is simply the next chapter for us as we transition into something new and exciting (which we can’t wait to share with you very soon).
“To everyone who supported us over the past year – our loyal regulars, new customers who gave us a chance, those who trusted us with birthdays, events, celebrations, and special moments – thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Being a small part of your lives has meant everything to us.”
Ahead of the new change in his business, Ciarán has announced they will be running a range of giveaways and competitions over the next few weeks. To stay in the loop on what comes, you can follow Crumbs & Cream on Facebook here and Instagram here.
This sweet treat spot will be dearly missed in Midleton – but thankfully it isn’t all bad news for this major East Cork town. In recent weeks, the team behind the much-loved family bakery The Grumpy Bakers also opened another location on Midleton’s Main Street. This spot is a big upgrade from the bakery’s old premises on Broderick Street just around the corner. It has 30 seats on its interior, as well as the former location’s brightly coloured benches to the front of the building – a handy option for the warmer months ahead.
The Grumpy Bakers’ space on Broderick Street closed on December 31st, and Cork Beo understands that a new business is already looking to set up a café and deli-style offering there.
