A giant model of the Sun is to illuminate Wakefield later this year as part of a series of space-themed events.
Helios, a touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram, will headline the programme at Wakefield Exchange (WX), which runs from 12 June to 6 September.
The artwork, which is about 7m (23ft) in diameter, features detailed imagery of the Sun’s surface, with each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture representing 1,429 miles (2,300km) of the Sun’s surface.
The installation is a fusion of solar imagery, sunlight and a specially created surround sound composition by Duncan Speakman and Sarah Anderson.
