Gardai and emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious crash in Longford. The collision, which involved a car and pedestrian, happened on Ballymahon main street at around 5.15pm.

The pedestrian, a man aged in his 80s, has been taken to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore for treatment of injuries believed to be serious. The driver of the car, an adult male aged in his late teens, was uninjured.

The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place. A forensic collision investigation is due to take place tomorrow.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact them.

A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a serious road traffic collision on Main Street, Ballymahon, Co. Longford this evening Monday 2nd February, 2026.

“The collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian occurred at approximately 5.15pm. The pedestrian, a man aged in his 80s was removed from the scene to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore for treatment of injuries believed to be serious. The driver of the car, an adult male, aged in his late teens, was uninjured.

“The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators will conduct a technical examination of the scene on Tuesday morning 3rd February, 2026.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were in the area between 5pm and 5.30pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.”Anyone with information is asked to contact Longford Garda Station on 043 335 0570, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
