Broke, pregnant and at her wit’s end, Margo (Elle Fanning) decides to lie down on the floor of a department store’s baby section.
Her mother, Shayanne (Michelle Pfeiffer), however, is having none of it: “Get yourself back up off the floor, young lady,” Pfeiffer’s character says in the teaser for Margo’s Got Money Troubles. “There are no victims in Bloomingdale’s.”
Apple TV released the brief teaser for Margo’s Got Money Troubles Tuesday as part of a press event. The series, based on a novel by Rufi Thorpe and premiering April 15, centers on Fanning’s lead character, an aspiring writer, as she turns to the online world to help make ends meet. Watch the teaser below.
Pfeiffer and Nick Offerman play Margo’s parents, a former Hooters waitress and an ex-pro wrestler. The cast of the A24-produced series also includes Nicole Kidman, Thaddea Graham, Marcia Gay Harden, Greg Kinnear, Michael Angarano, Rico Nasty and Lindsey Normington.
David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies, Apple’s Presumed Innocent) adapted Thorpe’s novel and serves as showrunner on Margo’s Got Money Troubles. The series marks the first time he and Pfeiffer, who have been married for 32 years, have worked together on a TV project (Kelley wrote the screenplay for the 1996 film To Gillian on her 37th Birthday, which starred Pfeiffer).
Kelley executive produces with Elle Fanning, Dakota Fanning and Brittany Kahan Ward for Lewellen Pictures; Kidman and Per Saari of Blossom Films; Matthew Tinker for David E. Kelley Productions; and Pfeiffer, Thorpe, Eva Anderson, Boo Killebrew and pilot director Dearbhla Walsh (Bad Sisters, Fargo). Kate Herron (Loki) and Alice Seabright (Sex Education) also directed.
