A woman has pleaded guilty to six separate offences involving the theft and fraudulent obtaining of medication from a Greystones pharmacy.
Justine O’Doherty (54), with an address at Meadowbrook, Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow, was arraigned at a sitting of the Wicklow Circuit Criminal Court on six charges relating to the theft of medication from a Boots pharmacy in Greystones.
The accused, who is a pharmacist, entered guilty pleas on all counts, with the court hearing that on March 17, 2023, she forged a prescription that had not been issued by a registered medical practitioner.
Ms O’Doherty entered two further guilty pleas to the same offence at Boots Greystones on March 18 and 19, 2023.
On March 17, the defendant also stole medication valued at €35.
Two further thefts took place on March 18 and the following day, which included the medication Vimovo.
Barrister for the accused, Conor Rubalcava, instructed by Michael O’Connor requested that a probation report be prepared ahead of sentencing.
Legal aid was extended to allow Ms O’Doherty to undergo a psychological assessment.
The court was told that the accused had previously been linked with psychological supports on an earlier occasion.
It was noted that this was Ms O’Doherty’s first appearance before the Circuit Court and that she entered her pleas at the earliest possible opportunity.
Counsel on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions, James Kelly BL, told the court that a victim impact statement on behalf of Boots will be available at the next sitting.
Judge Patrick Quinn remanded Ms O’Doherty on continuing bail until April 14, for a sentencing date to be fixed.
