KAPIT (Aug 30): Thirty secondary school students, accompanied by their teachers, attended the two-day ‘Kem Lestari Madani Sekolah Menengah’ at the Kapit Lighthouse recently.

They are the Form 2 and Form 3 students from SMK Kapit, SMK Kapit 2 and SMK Selirik.

The camp was a collaboration between Lighthouse Kapit and Kapit Hospital.

Programme facilitator Dr Tnew Chin Liang, a psychiatrist attached to Kapit Hospital, delivered a talk on ‘Adolescent Mental Health’, where the young participants gained insights about the importance of maintaining good mental health, building mental resilience, avoiding substance abuse such as illegal drugs, maintaining good sleeping habits, and managing daily stress whether at school, at home or in the community.

“The students and teachers must not hesitate to seek help from mental health professionals at the specialist clinic in Kapit Hospital should they face any mental health-related problems,” stressed Dr Tnew, who also conducted similar courses for health workers at Kapit Hospital and Kapit Health Office.
