The feature adaptation of Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary has one final trailer for our eyeballs. In it, we see Ryan Gosling’s Ryland Grace spend more time with the extraterrestrial Rocky, a rock-like being (hence the name) with spider-like legs and a cheeky voice. (The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Rocky’s voice, by the way, comes from its puppeteer, James Ortiz.)
We see a lot of Rocky in the trailer, which aired for the first time during Sunday’s Super Bowl. We also see the bond that Grace and Rocky build, including how Rocky is determined to save Grace after they both presumably save their planets by saving their dying suns.
The reveal that Grace meets Rocky to begin with, however, has upset some folks who are calling it a major spoiler or reveal. In fact, Weir strangely addressed Japanese fans specifically in a recently released YouTube video designed to assure people that Rocky’s presence is not a significant spoiler.
“I want to reassure you that Rocky isn’t a secret twist but is the heart of the story,” he says. “He’s an essential element in the adventure, so enjoy the trailers! Meeting Rocky is just the beginning.”
We can get more of Rocky when Project Hail Mary, a film directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller from a screenplay by Drew Goddard, blasts into theaters on March 20, 2026.
