‘One way or the other factories appear to have the measure of the market at present’ Photo: Roger Jones
A month ago, a factory agent in the south east told me that whatever he was buying was collected and processed the following day. Over the weekend the same man informed me it’s now taking him up to 10 days to get to stock killed.
This sees agents in this part of the country continuing to quote €7.00/kg for bullocks and €7.10/kg for heifers. That being said actual prices when it comes to Hereford and Angus are around the €7.10/kg mark, which when you add breed bonuses and quality assurance sees the top of the market on €7.50-7.60/kg.
