Storm Dave fears have been put at ease by a weather expert this morning after panic stations last night.
It was widely reported on Monday evening that a powerful storm was brewing off the west coast of Ireland – and was set to hit the country on Thursday or Friday. But Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather has issued an update this morning, saying that the potential impact of the storm’s winds have already been reduced and weakened.
He wrote: “A very breezy but mild Tuesday morning. Latest ECMWF also reduces low system Thursday into Friday to much weaker system with no strong winds.
“It does still bring rain on Thursday evening but other models keep it south so still a lot of uncertainty.” It’s a cloudy but mostly dry start for the early shifters in Dublin this morning, with just some light patches of drizzle to contend with.
Temperatures will get up to highs of 13C. Tonight will be drizzly, misty, and foggy, with lows of 9C. And here is what the rest of the Met Eireann forecast currently says for the week ahead:
Overview: Staying unsettled with spells of rain or showers and turning a little cooler too towards the end of the week.
Wednesday: Cloudy and wet with rain clearing early in the morning followed by scattered showers. Southwesterly breezes will continue and it’ll be quite mild with highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees.
Wednesday Night: Showers will gradually die out later in the night but it will remain rather overcast. South-westerly breezes will remain overnight however with some patchy rain moving in from the west overnight. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.
Thursday: A largely overcast morning with rain in the west and northwest. South-westerly winds will strengthen ahead of a band of heavy rain which will move over southern counties in the afternoon. Some heavy and persistent falls of rain expected together with some very strong and blustery winds during the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees.
Thursday Night: Very wet and unsettled with rain, heavy at times and very strong and blustery winds. The rain will become widespread for a time overnight before clearing away from the south before dawn. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees.
Friday: Cloudy with rain, heavy at times in the west. The rain will gradually clear away by the afternoon with plenty of clear and dry spells developing by evening. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with westerly breezes gradually weakening.
The Weekend: Current indications are for the unsettled weather to continue with rain, possibly heavy on Saturday with strong breezes. Sunday will see rain at times while temperatures across both days will reach 10 or 11 degrees.
