A tunnelling company founded by a Donegal businessman has confirmed it is relocating staff to safer accommodation amid ongoing unrest in the Middle East.

Joseph Gallagher Limited, which is currently delivering microtunnelling infrastructure projects in Bahrain and elsewhere in the region, said it has taken precautionary measures to protect employees.

In a statement, the contracting company said: “We have taken action to move our people in the Middle East, and particularly in Bahrain, to accommodation away from areas that appear to be at greatest risk.

“Our people’s dedication in these challenging conditions has been remarkable. Their safety is our primary concern and will remain so.”

The firm added that while it hopes tensions ease quickly, it will continue to adapt as required while maintaining work commitments as far as possible.

Joseph Gallagher praised the commitment of its employees during challenging conditions and said: “It is a source of great pride to the business to be able to call every one of you part of our Gallagher Team.”

Founded in 1982 by former tunnel tiger Josie Gallagher from Arranmore Island, the company is now a leader in civil engineering and tunnelling in the UK.

It has operated internationally for more than a decade, with projects across Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Oman.
