The Conjuring universe has scared up cinemas for more than a decade, starting with 2013’s The Conjuring and launching spin-offs like Annabelle and The Nun.
Met with varying degrees of enthusiasm, the horror film franchise is now marking the end of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga’s time as Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal investigators who really existed and became cultural phenomenons during their lifetimes. The Conjuring: Last Rites follows one of the Warren’s most shocking cases yet in a house beset by demons.
Fans have taken an interest in different films in the franchise, sharing their thoughts online by rating the film on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes. For those keen to know how fans have ranked the movies, either for a movie night or just out of curiosity, here is what you need to know.
8 | The Nun (2018)
The Nun is the second spin-off series from The Conjuring universe. (Warner Bros.)
The second spin-off franchise is The Nun, which looks at the evil nun that features in The Conjuring 2 and how the demon terrorises a church in Romania. The movie is a prequel and technically the very first film in the whole universe; however, it didn’t become a massive hit with audiences.
IMDb rating: 5.4
7 | Annabelle (2014)
Annabelle is part of The Conjuring Cinematic Universe. (Warner Bros.)
The horror genre is full of demonic dolls and The Conjuring threw its hat in the ring with Annabelle, the terrifying doll with a killer streak.
The movie helped bolster the strength of the concept of spin-offs in the universe, as it was the very first and most successful. Despite being a box office success, the film has one of the franchise’s weakest-rated entries.
IMDb rating: 5.5
6 | The Nun 2 (2023)

The film centres on a murder case involving Arne Cheyenne Johnson (Ruairi O’Connor), who killed his landlord and claimed a demon was responsible. The Warrens are brought on hand to determine the veracity of what he’s saying and what happened to him.
IMDb rating: 6.3
3 | Annabelle: Creation (2017)
So much better than it had any right to be, Annabelle: Creation took everything that was wrong with the original and created a genuinely compelling prequel. (Warner Bros.)
The follow-up to Annabelle, which was also a prequel (talk about confusing), is Anabelle: Creation. The movie is one of the more successful films in the franchise and earned a 6.5 rating out of 10, making it the most popular spin-off in the Conjuring universe too. The film reveals the origin of how the doll came to be haunted in the first place.
IMDb rating: 6.5
2 | The Conjuring 2 (2016)
The Conjuring received its first sequel back in 2016, which also helped to launch a spinoff franchise. (Warner Bros.)
The second Conjuring film is also one of the most beloved, the film follows Lorraine and Ed Warren as they come to the aid of a family being haunted by an evil spirit. That malevolent ghost is none other than The Nun, who went on to front her own franchise, but she scared people the most in this film which received a solid 7.3 rating out of 10.
IMDb rating: 7.3
