Everybody say it with me: just shoot your shot!
Lamorne Morris, 42, was chatting with fellow New Girl alum Hannah Simone on their shared rewatch podcast, The Mess Around with Hannah and Lamorne, when Morris spontaneously called up his friend and on-screen love interest Nasim Pedrad to ask her on a real-life date. Morris and Pedrad, 44, played Winston and Aly, who began as police partners before getting together romantically later on in the show.
On the podcast, Morris got right to the point: “I’ma go date Nasim. Where she at?” he said.
Simone, 45, appeared incredibly supportive of the new development, noting, “Everybody’s been wanting this. Everybody’s been shipping this for a long time.”
Morris picked up his phone and called Pedrad, holding his phone’s speaker to the mic when she answered. Coaching Morris from the sidelines, Simone whispered, “Ask her on a real date!” as the actor subsequently asked her out on-air.

“I was just like, ‘You know what, I’m just going to date Nasim in real life.’ So … what’s up?” Morris said, and Pedrad responded with giddy laughter on the other end.
“You got a man? You dating somebody?” he added. “I just saw you the other day, you seemed single.”
“Are you asking me out on a date?” Pedrad asked, still a little baffled by the situation. Morris doubled down: “Not a date, just more like, let’s just be boyfriend-girlfriend.”
Simone continued encouraging Morris, advising him not to put the cart before the horse and actually ask for a date first. Morris, in turn, made the case to both Pedrad and Simone that he and his New Girl love interest had gone on “many a date as friends,” though Pedrad said she considered those “dates” as more of “friendship-hangs.”
“So yeah, I’m going to ask you on a date. I don’t know when — I’m busy, so I ain’t got the time. But I will make the time!” Morris concluded. Simone’s jaw dropped as Pedrad responded, “I’m down! Let’s go on a date!”
Morris then promised he’d bring a rose and don his “spicy cologne” for the date.

The New Girl on-screen couple first came about in season 4 when Pedrad’s character Aly was introduced as Winston’s partner. By the next season, their relationship turned romantic, with Winston proposing to Aly in season 6 and the couple welcoming a child together by the show’s end.
