The Taoiseach has strongly hinted that cuts to excise duty on fuel are being considered to help households with the soaring cost of energy as a result of the war in Iran.

But as pressure builds on the Coalition to offer relief to homes and businesses, Micheál Martin ruled out delaying a planned increase in carbon tax, saying the impact of such a delay would be nowhere near the impact of cutting other levies and taxes on fuel.
