New Drogheda Sculpture

New Drogheda Sculpture

A local resident has spoken out strongly against the recent defacement of public sculptures on the Dublin Road in Drogheda, recently installed by Drogheda Tidy Towns, calling the act “one of the most conservative acts of defiance in the history of the State.”

The vandalism which involved the spraying of a Christian cross over a newly installed sculpture, appears to have been carried out by individuals claiming to act in the name of Irish patriotism. But Oisín Greene, from Newfoundwell, says the action reflects a deep misunderstanding of both Irish history and the local significance of the star and crescent symbol that featured on the artwork.
