“You know, for me, working out started from a low place in my life and it wasn’t about trying to be a certain amount on the scale. And it isn’t still, I don’t even own a scale. I don’t look at that,” she says. “You just have to do what feels good to you. I know it’s super easy to compare yourself to other people, especially with social media. And I’ve been a victim to that, but it feels so good when you are your only competition.”

She continues: “I get excited when I see certain things on myself and I’m now 41 and I’ve come to realize, okay, we all truly don’t have the same body. There’s no one size fits all. Someone goes to the gym twice a week and they have this incredible body and I might have to fight for mine a little harder. And I also think that’s like a cool thing to brag about. And I think that’s okay to just be on your own race with yourself.”

The Khloud founder also stressed the importance of hard work amid her health journey and how physical transformation only sticks if it starts from the inside out.

“Do you feel confident and do you like yourself as a person from the inside out? I think all of those things matter and the rest are just extras that we get to work hard for. And as much as people wanna believe, there is no magic anything, I think we all have to work at something,” she tells PEOPLE candidly.

“There might be a little assistance and help, and thank God for that. But you still have to reprogram your brain and feel good about yourself and love yourself before any of those magic things actually do what they’re supposed to do.”

The beginning of Kardashian’s weight loss journey dates back to 2013 when she was getting a divorce from Lamar Odom and used the gym as a healthy way to cope and process.

This held especially true after her therapist at the time reportedly leaked information shared in her sessions to the media and she needed a place that felt safe.

“I remember I was going to therapy and the next thing I knew, something private I told my therapist was on a tabloid,” Kardashian told Bustle in an interview in December 2024. “So I stopped going to therapy and started going to the gym. I needed a release, but I did not trust anybody else anymore. And the place that I felt the safest was the gym.”
